Two substances A and B combine to give a substance C. The process is exothermic and C has properties different from those of A and B. Is the substance C, an element, a mixture or a compound? Give explanation to support your answer.

The substances C is a compound.

This is because–

(i) Heat is evolved during the formation of C. 

(ii) The properties of C are different from those of A and B.
