Best answer

(a) Calculation of the wave number

\(\lambda\) = 5800 Å = 5800 × 10-10 m

\(\bar{v}\) = \(\frac{1}{\lambda}\) = \(\frac{1}{5800\times10^{-10}}\)

= 1.724 × 106 m−1

= 1.724 × 104 cm1

(b) Calculation of frequency (v)

v = \(\frac{c}{\lambda}\) = \(\frac{3\times10^8ms^{-1}}{5800\times10^{-10}m}\)

= 5.172 × 10−14 s−1
