It is clear by the diagram

∠ABD = ∠CDB = 90º

and ∠BED = r .................(1)  (Vertical opposite angle)

α = 90º + ∠DBE and β = 90º + ∠BDE ..................(2)

In triangle BDE

∠DBE + ∠BDE + ∠BED = 180º

α + β + r = 90º + ∠DBE + 90º + ∠BDE + ∠BED ( By eqn (1) and (2))

= 180º + 180180º

= 360º
