The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently expanded its list of COVID-19 symptoms after new recommendations were issued by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (an organization that defines which infectious diseases are tracked and reported).

As everyone learns more about COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, we are seeing that it can affect people in many ways.

Previously there were just three symptoms: fever, cough and shortness of breath. The new guidance says people with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell
