An infinite line charge produces a field of 9 × 104NC-1 at a distance of 2cm. Calculate the linear charge density.

Given E = 9 × 104 NC-1 , r = 2 cm = 0.02 m

Since E = \(\frac{1}{4\pi \varepsilon_0 }.\frac{2\lambda}{r}\)

or \(\lambda=\frac{4\pi \varepsilon_0\times E\times r}{2}\)

\(\frac{9\times10^4\times0.02}{9\times10^9\times2}\) = 10-7cm-1
