A light ray travelling from one medium to another medium is given in the figure.

1. Write a mathematical relation for this refraction.

  • n< n1
  • n> n1
  • n2 = n1

2. What is a relation between angle of incidence, angle of refraction and refractive index of medium.

3. A int glass rod when immersed in carbon disulfide is nearly invisible why?

Best answer

1. n2 < n1

2.  \(\frac{sin\,i}{sin\,r}\) = \(\frac{n_2}{n_1}\)

3. Refractive index of int glass rod and carbon disulfide are nearly equal. Hence no refraction (or reflection) take place.
