  • Decentralization refers to shift of power from centre to the lower levels
  • It basically means the power is not accumulated at higher authority but it is divided among the lower levels of the system.
  • Democracy is form of government where people choose their representative.
  •  A leader who can make laws and policies that look after their aspirations and welfare of its people.
  • Decentralization helps by preventing us from having a command economy where decisions are taken at the centre and are applied all over the nation without knowing and admiring the root level problems at villages and districts
  • the best example of decentralization is the 'Kerala model' of planning which was based on decentralized planning. it basically focus on active people participation in planning for the development of their state. this is the reason why Kerala state is able to achieve total literacy rate, high life expectancy, low infant and female mortality rate and low birth rates.
  • Another example is the 3rd tier introduced in India known as Panchayati Raj system by 73rd and 74th amendment which helps in more involvement of people in decision making procedure.
  • Hence Decentralization strengthens democracy.
