The trunk of a tree is cylindrical and its circumference is 176 cm. If the length of the trunk is 3 m, find the volume of the timber that can be obtained from the trunk.

Given,

Circumference of trunk of tree = 176 cm

Length of the trunk = 3 m = 300 cm

so,

= 2πr = 176

= r = \(\frac{176}{2π}\) = \(\frac{176\times 7}{44}\) = 28 cm

= radius of trunk of tree = 28 cm

hence,

Volume of timber can be obtained from trunk of tree = πr2h = \(\frac{22}{7}\)x 28 x 28 x 300 = 7392 cm3 = 0.74 m3
