Complex compounds of platinum(II) is main part of coordination theory. The existence of two isomeric forms for the Pt XA2 compounds (where A is amine, and X is anion) concludes that platinum(II) complexes have square-planar structures.

The isomeric forms of Pt(ii) complex are a result of the cis- and trans- locations of ligands A and X.
