Scholars say that colonialism brought drastic changes in the Jati system. There are some scholars who even argue the Jati system as we see it today is not part of the Indian system, but is a creation of colonialism. However, these systems were not deliberately introduced but happened over centuries, it is true that the colonialists did make some changes in the existing system.
