If p and q are the roots of the equation x2 + px + q = 0, then 

A. p = 1, q = – 2

Since p and q are roots of the equations then 

Sum of the roots is p + q = = – (p) = – p 

Here a = 1, b = p and c = q 

Products of the root = p × q = = q 

∴ p × q = q p = 1 

Putting value of ‘p’ in p + q = – p 

1 + q = – 1 

q = – 2
