In Fig..(a), OABC is a square of side 7 cm. If OAPC is a quadrant of a circle with centre O, then find the area of the shaded region.

(use π = \(\frac{22}7\))

Given, 

Side of square = 7 cm 

Area of square = (side)2 = 72 = 49 cm

Area of quadrant OAPC = \(\frac{θ}{360}πr^2\)

\(\frac{90}{360}\times\frac{22}{7}\times7\times7\)

\(\frac{1}{4}\times154\) = 38.5 cm2

Area of shaded region = (area of square – area of quadrant) 

= 49 – 38.5 = 10.5 cm2

Thus the shaded region is 10.5 cm²
