Best answer

(a) CH4 ;

x + (1 × 4) = 0

x + 4 = 0

x = -4

Oxidation number of C in CH4 is -4.

CH3Cl:

x + (3 × 1) + -1 = 0

x + 3 – 1= 0

x + 2 = 0

x = -2

Oxidation number of C in CH3Cl is -2.

(b) Zero
