Here, 

A and B are two disjoint sets. 

⇒ A⋂B = ϕ 

⇒ n(A⋂B) = 0 

n(A⋃B) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A⋂B) 

= n(A) + n(B)-0 

= n(A) + n(B)
