What are polyatomic ions? Give examples?

A polyatomic ion is a group of atoms carrying a charge (positive or negative). 

For example, ammonium ion (NH4 +), hydroxide ion (OH ), carbonate ion (CO3 2−), sulphateion (SO4 2−).
