(i) Magnetic poles: The end points of a magnet where most of its magnetic power is concentrated are called pole of a magnet .
(ii) Magnetic North Pole : The point N at the end of the freely suspended bar magnet which points towards the geographic North Pole is called magnetic North Pole.
(iii) Magnetic South Pole : The piont S at the end of the freely suspended bar magnet which points towards the geographic South Pole is called magnetic South pole.
(iv) Magnetic axis : An imaginary line passing through the magnetic North Pole and South Pole of a bar magnet is called magnetic axis.
(v) Length of a bar magnet : Total distance from the North Pole to the centre of a magnet or the South Pole to the centre of a magnet is called length of a magnet.
(vi) Effective length: The shortest lenght between teh magnetic North Pole and the magnetic South Pole of a magnet is called effective length of the magnet. ltrbgt (vii) Magnetic equator: An imaginary line passing through the centre of the magnet and perpendicular to the magnetic axis is called mangetic equator.
