Sewage is treated in Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) before disposal to make it less polluting. This treatment is carried out in two stages, viz. primary treatment and secondary treatment. The primary treatment steps basically involve the physical removal of large and small particles from the sewage through filtration and sedimentation.
