x2 − 4x − 3 = 0

⇒ x2 − 4x + 4 − 7 = 0

⇒ (x−2)2 − 7 = 0

⇒ (x−2)2 = 7

∴ x − 2 = −√7​, +√7​

x = 2 − √7​, 2 + √7​
