Best answer
(i) Apparent shift ` = t(1-1/mu)`
Find the apparent shift in each glass slab `S_(1) and S_(2)` and the total shift (S) = `S_(1) + S_(2)`
But `S = t(1-1/mu_(e))` when `mu_(e)` is the effective refractive index
(ii) `mu = 24/17`
