Find the value of (x + y) from the following equation :

\(2\begin{bmatrix} 1& 3 \\[0.3em] 0&\text{x} \\[0.3em] \end{bmatrix} \) + \(\begin{bmatrix} y& 0 \\[0.3em] 1&2 \\[0.3em] \end{bmatrix} \) = \(\begin{bmatrix} 5& 6 \\[0.3em] 1&8 \\[0.3em] \end{bmatrix} \)

2[(1,3)(0,x)] + [(y,0)(1,2)] = [(5,6)(1,8)]

Best answer

Given

So, 2 + y = 5 and 2x + 2 = 8

i.e y = 3 and x = 3

Therefore, x + y = 6

Conclusion: Therefore x + y = 6
