Restriction endonuclease recognises a specific palindromic nucleotide sequence in the DNA. Restriction endonuclease cuts the strand of DNA a little away from the centre of palindromic nucleotide sequence but between the same two bases on the opposite strands, leaving single stranded portions at the end or sticky ends.
