The role of women in Chipko movement was important as it led to the success of the movement. The women began to hug the trees and provide protection against the illegal felling. It gave the women a new platform to unite their powers and demand their rights. They also led a mass mobilisation to ban the sale of alcohol. Thus it could be seen that there were other social issues connected to the Chipko movement.
