Why an immunosuppressive agent is taken after an organ transplant?

Our immune system is capable to differentiate between ‘self ’ and ‘non-self ’ cells/tissues. The graft (grafting) is a non-self tissue which may be rejected by our immune system. So, to prevent the rejection, immunosuppressants are taken after the transplant.
