(i) The energy demands are increasing rapidly due to : (a) population explosion (b) our efforts in improve the quality of life by adopting faster means of transport and travel, rapid industrialisation and extensive use of energy-fed home appliances.
(ii) Fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, `LPG`, Natural gas) are fast depleting.
