Why are coils of electric toasters and electric irons made of an alloy rather than a pure metal ?

The resistivity of an alloy is higher than pure metal. Moreover, at high temperatures, the alloys do not melt readilky. Hence, the coils of heating appliances such as electric toasters and electric irons are made of a an alloy rather than a pure metal.
