Tautonyms are the scientic names in which both generic and specific epithers are same. Tautonyms are used in zoological nomenclaute. However, in the current rules for nomenclaute of living organsims, tautontyms are expectively prohibited. Examples of tautonyms are Rattus rattus(Rat), Catla catla (Catla) Gorilla gorilla (Western gorilla ), etc.
