Minicomputers were introduced in the 1960’s. They have less capacity to manipulate and store data than mainframe computers.
Some of the main characteristics of minicomputers are as follows :
1. They offer a limited range of peripherals.
2. The limited software can be used.
3. There is a facility for direct of ration of the machine by the end user.
4. Air conditioning is not necessary and is provided in many cases for dust control.
5. They are widely used for data processing.
