If p(x) = 4x2 + 3x + 5 and q(x) = 3x2 – x – 7, then find p(x) + q(x) and p(x) – q(x).

p(x) + q(x) = (4x2 + 3x + 5) + (3x2 – x – 7)

= 4x2 + 3x2 + 3x – x + 5 – 7

= 7x2 + 2x – 2

p(x) – q(x) = (4x2 + 3x + 5) – (3x2 – x – 7)

= 4x2 + 3x + 5 – 3x + x + 7

= x2 + 4x + 12
