In the figure if the length of one side of a square is 12 cm, then find the area of the shaded portion.

Area of the square = 122 = 144

Diameter of the circle = 12; r = 6 Area of the circle

= πr2 = π × 6 × 6 = 3.14 × 6 × 6 = 113.04 cm

Area of shaded portion = 144 – 113.04 = 30.96 cm2
