Best answer

Given :

V1 = 6 dm3

V2 = 20 dm3

P = 2.5 atm

Q = 5000 J

W = ?;

ΔU = ?

For expansion,

W = -Pex (V2 – V1

= -2.5 (20 – 6)

= – 35

= – 35 × 100 J

= – 3500 J

ΔU = Q + W

= 5000 + (-3500)

= -1500 J

∴ W = -3500 J;

ΔU = – 1500 J
