The 23'd pair in a somatic cell of human females contains XX chromosomes. During gametogenesis, each gamete gets one X-chromosome as the 23rd chromosome. A girl child is born by the fusion of two X-chromosomes. One X chromosome from father and one X chromosome from mother. This means a female has two X-chromosomes.
