Appreciation of domestic (say Indian) currency means increase in the value of domestic currency in terms of foreign currency (say American). It makes Indian currency more valuable indicating less rupees are required to buy a dollar. In other words, a dollar can buy lesser amount of Indian goods. As a result, Indian exports are likely to fall.
