Let metal chloride be MClx , then

Mol. wt. of MClx = a + 35.5 x,

2 x 85 = E. x + 35. 5 (x)

x = 2 x 85/7.01 + 35.5 = 4

at. wt. = 7.01 x 4 = 28.04
