Name an opioid drug and its source plant. How does the drug affect the human body ?

An opioid drug is heroin (smack) morphine .

It is obtained from poppy plant /Papaver somniferum. Bind with opiod receptors in CNS/gastrointestinal tract,depresent and slow down the system and body functions.

Detailed

(i) Heroin, commonly called smack (chemical name diacetylmorphine), is a white odourless, bitter crystalline compound. This is obtained by acetylation of morphine, which is extracted from the latex of poppy plant Papatter somniferous. 

(ii) Opioid drugs bind to a specific opioid receptor present in our central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. Heroin is a depressant and slows down body functions.
