A person in your colony was found to be suffering from AIDS. The residents of the colony want him to leave the colony because of the fear of the spread of AIDS. 

Answer the following questions : 

(a) What are your views about this situation ? Give reasons. 

(b) What preventive and precautionary measures you will suggest to the residents of your colony so that they may understand the situation ? 

(c) Write the symptoms and causative agent of AIDS.

(a) Demand of resident of the colony that AIDS patient should leave the colony is totally wrong unjustified, unscientific and based on wrong beliefs. The person suffering from AIDS should be allowed to stay in the colony because the AIDS is not a contagious disease and does not spread through touching, hugging or sharing the belongings.

(b) To preventive measures include : 

1.  avoid multiple sexual partners

 2.  use disposable needles and syringes 

3.  use condoms 

4.  promoting regular check up for HIV in susceptible population.

(c) Causative agent : HIV-Human immunodeficiency virus (A kind of retro virus with RNA genome).
