(a) The plant should be homozygous dominant as it produces violet flowers only. 

(b) Its genotype can be ensured by performing the test cross. In this cross if all the F₁, plants obtained (100%) are with violet flowers then it is homozygous & it the violet & white flowers appear in 1:1 ratio then the plant in heterozygous (Vv) Test Crosses can be shown as follows :
