A wire having length 2.0 m, diameter 1.0 mm and resistivity 1.963  10–8 m is connected in series with a battery of emf 3V and internal resistance 1. Calculate the resistance of the wire and current in the circuit.

Resistance, R = P l/A

diameter d = 1 mm

r = d/2 = 0.5 mm

or r = 5 x 10-4 m

R = 1.963 x 10-8\(\frac2{\pi(5\times10^{-4})^2}\)

= 1.963 x 2/25π

= 0.05 π

Current, i = E/r+R

= 3/1+0.05 A

= 2.86 A
