Statement I A tennis ball bounces higher on hills than in plains. 

Statement II Acceleration due to gravity on the hill is greater than that on the surface of earth.

The correct option is (b) Statement I is true, Statement II is false.

Explanation:

Suppose that the tennis ball bounces with a velocity u. It will go up, till its velocity becomes zero. If h is the height up to which it rises on the hill, then

(0)2 - u2 = 2 (-g')h

where, g' is acceleration due to gravity on the hill.

h = u2/2g'

Since, the acceleration due to gravity on the hill (g,) is less than that on earth (effect of height), it follows that tennis ball will bounce higher on hills than in plains.
