The volume and the surface area of a sphere are numerically the same. Then the volume of the smallest cylinder in which the sphere is exactly kept is

Correct option is: B) 54π

\(\because\) Volume of sphere = surface area of sphere

\(\Rightarrow\) \(\frac 43 \pi r^3\) = \(4 \pi r^2\)

\(\Rightarrow\)\(\frac {r^3}{r^2} = \frac {4 \pi}{\frac 43 \pi} = 3\)

\(\Rightarrow\) r = 3

Since, sphere of radius 3 unit exactly kept in a cylinder. It is possible only when

Radius of cylinder = r =3

And height of the cylinder = h = 2r = 6

\(\therefore\) Volume of such cylinder = \(\pi r^2h \)

\(\pi \times 3^2 \times 6 = 54 \pi\) cubic unit.
