Find the points on the curve y = x3 - 3x2 - 9x + 7 at which the tangent to the curve is parallel to the x-axis.

Since tangents to y = x3 - 3x2 - 9x + 7 are parallel to x-axis

.. . dy/dx = 0

or  3x2 - 6x - 9 = 0 

= (x - 3)(3x + 3) = 0

or x = 3, x = -1 and point on curve are (3, -20) & (-1, 12)
