Find the equations of the normal to the curve y = x3 + 2x + 6, which are parallel to line x + 14y + 4 = 0.

Given, equation of curve is

y = x3 + 2x + 6 ......(i)

and the given equation of line is

x + 14y + 4 = 0

On differentiating both sides of Eq' (i) w.r.t. x, we get

and, when x = -2, then from Eq. (i),

Hence, equation of normal at point (2, 18) is
