Explain the chemical nature, structure and role of phospholipids in biological membrane.

Chemical nature:

Phospholipids are amphiphilic in nature. As they have hydrophilic head and hydrophobic tail. 

Structure:

It contains an alcohol, two fatty acid chains and a phosphate group.

Role:

Phospholipids forms the membranes around the cells and cellular organelles. They form a lipid bilayer membrane. The phospholipids are arranged tail to tail. It serves as a barrier against movement of any ions or polar compounds into and out of the cell.
