For the reaction

2A+2B  →Products

the following initial rates were obtained at various given inital concentrations

S.no [A] [B] Rate (mol L-1 sec-1)
1. 0.1 0.2 0.46
2. 0.2 0.2 1.84
3. 0.2 0.1 0.92

The specific rate constant for the reaction is

(a) 2.3 sec-1

(b) 0.46 L mol-1 sec-1

(c) 2.3 x 102L2mol-1sec-1

(d) 1.125 x 102L2 mol-1sec-1

Best answer

Correct Option  (d) 1.125 x 102L2 mol-1sec-1

Explanation:

From data (1) and (2) we observe that

On doubling the concentration of A, rate become four times

:. order w.r.t A = 2

From data (2) and (3) we observe that

On making the concentration of B to one half, rate also become one half.

:. order w.r.t B = 1

overall order = 3

As only (d) option have unit of rate constant corresponds to third order.
