The standard reduction potential for half-reaction for four different elements A, B, C and D are

A2 + 2e- → 2A-    E° = + 2.85 V

B2 + 2e- → 2B-    E° = + 1.36 V

C2 + 2e- → 2C-    E° = + 1.06 V

D2 + 2e- → 2D-    E° = + 0.53 V

The strongest oxidising and reducing agents among these

(A) would be A and D respectively

(B) would be D and A respectively

(C) would be B and C respectively

(D) cannot be ascertained from the given data as the species being subjected to oxidation or reduction have not been indicated.

Best answer

Correct option (A) would be A and D respectively

Explanation :

Oxidising agents are those which easily gets reduced themselves and oxidises other. A strong oxidising agent must have higher reduction potential. Reducing agents are those which reduces others and themselves get oxidised. A strong reducing agent must have lower reduction potential or higher oxidation potential.
