The shortest distance between the lines \(\bar{r} = \overline{a_1} + \lambda \overline{b_1}\) and \(\bar{r} = \overline{a_2} + \mu \overline{b_2}\) is given by

∴ the shortest distance between the given lines

Hence, the given lines do not intersect.
