Water: Water is a nutrient that makes up almost 70% (per cent) of our body weight. Most of this water is in our cells. Life processes cannot occur without water. We lose lot of water every day as we sweat, breathe, cry. Normally we need 10-12 glasses of water every day to stay healthy. It maintains the body temperature. Drink regularly throughout the day, do not wait until you feel thirsty. Drink enough water during the intense and prolonged exercise sessions. 

Functions of water:

(a) Intake of water helps in elimination of poisonous elements and waste products from the body in the form of sweat and urine. 

(b) helps in the digestion of food. 

(c) saves the bones from becoming brittle and dry. 

(d) helps in circulation of blood. 

(e) regulates the body temperature. 

(f) supplies mineral salts to the body
