Nutritive components: Nutritive components of diet are proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals.

Proteins: Proteins are nutrients that help to build the body and make new cells. They help us in repair of worn-out tissues. They are especially important for growing children. They are called bodybuilding food. Milk, eggs, cheese, pulses, meat and fish have lots of proteins. The daily requirement of proteins is about 20 gm. They help in maintenance of our muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Non-nutritive components: Water and fibres are non-nutritive components.

Water: Almost two third of our body is made up of water. Water helps our body to work well and maintain body temperature. We need to drink at least 10-12 glasses of water everyday.
