This is the first stage of motor development. This period starts from birth and lasts till the age of 2 years. The motor development begins from 6 weeks. Now the child can lift arms, try to hold head upright. At the age of 7 months he starts sitting and crawling. He can walk in a walker at the age of 8 months. Stands with help at 10 months and walks on foot about the age of one year. The sequence of motor development is uniform but it differs from individual to individual. At the end of 2 years the child is confident in walking. He can jog, dance, kick, etc. His movements are uncoordinated. He loves going up the stairs and does not tolerate anybody's interference in his activities.
