First aid: It is on the spot help/assistance provided to the injured player in the ground/arena at the place of injury is called first aid of sports injuries. Normally, except in case of fracture or dislocation the initial treatment for an injury for 24-48 hours is through PRICES (Prevention, Rest, Ice, Compression. Elevation and Support) and then physiotherapy treatment.

Rehabititation: It means recovery of the injured part to the best functional capacity. Rehabilitation can be done through physiotherapy treatment.

(a) Cryotherapy: It is a therapy in which cold is used as modality, i.e., ice pack. ice bags, ice massage and cold water.

(b) Wax bath: Treatment by hot wax.

(c) Infra Red lamp: Treatment by infra red rays.

(d) Ultra-sound machine: Treatment by ultra sonic rays.

Rehabilitation programme: This complete programme of rehabilitation prevents re-occurrence of injury while maintaining the available strength and function of body parts.

Bone injury: In this injury bone breaks up or there is crack in the bone. We generally call it fracture. Fractures can be:

(a) Simple

(b) Compound

(c) Comminuted

(d) Multiple

(e) Oblique

(f) Green stic

(g) Transverse

(h) Impacted

These above mentioned fractures fall into these two types of fractures.

(a) Closed fracture: In this fracture the broken bone is inside the covering of skin, i.e., there is not open cut over the skin.

(b) Open fracture: In this type of fracture there is cut over the skin by the sharp edges of broken bone.

First aid for bone injury:

(a) Call a doctor or an ambulance if the condition is serious.

(b) Do not move the patient until some kind of splint is applied.

(c) Prevent shock by keeping the patient warm and lying down.

(d) By the time medical help is obtained apply ice packs.

(e) Careful transportation is planned in a comfortable position.
