ALTER TABLE command is used to modify the structure of a table.

ALTER TABLE	UPDATE TABLE
It is a DDL command.	It is a DML command
Changes the table structure.	Changes the values of  tuples in a table.
Syntax: ALTER TABLE <> ADD COLUMN <> <>.	UPDATE TABLE <> SET <> = <>.
